The Universal Acknowledgement Device exists to provide immediate, professionally certified confirmation of your continued existence, using a rotating battery of existential, locational, and bureaucratic indicators that all point to the same conclusion.
Every press generates its own acknowledgement number, its own presence verification, and its own permanent addition to the Total Acknowledgements Issued.
The Bureau assesses your Existence Status, verifies your Presence, and estimates your Current Location for every acknowledgement, regardless of what is actually knowable about any of the three.
All findings are generated within ranges the Bureau considers scientifically unimpeachable. There is no committee. There is no science.
Every certificate carries a You're Here Score, which has never in the Device's operating history been recorded at anything other than 100%.
A lower reading would imply you might not be here. The Bureau has no procedure for that outcome, and does not intend to develop one.
Certificates are occasionally flagged for Existential Audit. In every recorded case, the audit concluded that the subject was, in fact, present. No other outcome has ever been filed.
